Identity Verificationvendor landscape.

Identity verification platforms help organizations establish that a person is real and connected to the identity information supplied during a workflow.

How the risk develops

How identity verification fraud happens

Identity verification fraud occurs when someone presents a stolen, synthetic, or manipulated identity and exploits a gap between the person, the evidence, and the decision.

  1. 01

Identity data is obtained or assembled

The fraudster may use breached information, a stolen identity document, a synthetic identity, or credentials purchased from a criminal marketplace.

  2. 02

The person or presentation is spoofed

Common methods include document alteration, replayed video, deepfake media, camera injection, face substitution, or using a genuine document that belongs to someone else.

  3. 03

A weak point in the journey is targeted

Attackers may switch channels, exploit fallback review, use a different document, or apply social pressure when an automated check produces friction.

  4. 04

Verified access becomes a launch point

Once accepted, the identity can be used to open accounts, obtain credit, pass KYC, access services, or support a later account takeover or cash-out event.
